In Cubist art, techniques like parallel perspective and light source are used to depict transparency.

 

Art+ Shanghai Gallery presents 'Transparency', a dual exhibition featuring Tong Xindi & Shen Ting and Ling Haipeng.

 

Tong Xindi & Shen Ting draw inspiration from the glazes of Tang Sancai pottery. They use ceramics and custom-built intricate machinery in their creative process to emulate the natural creation process. This represents a revitalization of ancient techniques and a groundbreaking evolution in ceramic artistry.

 

Ling Haipeng starts from the traditional painting technique of "ruler painting". He combines digital and visual elements to break down the conventional perceptions of everyday life. His artworks present different states of an object within a single plane, reflecting his exploration and deconstruction of spatial dynamics.

 

Tang Sancai pottery was primarily used in the production of burial objects during the Tang Dynasty. The production process involves the flow and blockage of glazes. The artistic duo embarked on comprehensive research into ceramics, focusing on the study of ceramic glazes. They aim to use ceramics to depict the societal context of the contemporary world.

 

Tong Xindi & Shen Ting also explore whether ceramics can be precisely controlled or become unpredictable due to various factors. They utilize computer software to simulate these concepts and translate these graphics into the machine's motion paths. Their aim is to convey the experience of how nature brings forth all things.

 

Ling Haipeng reinterprets the traditional method of ruler painting from a contemporary standpoint. He combines the skeletal frameworks, physical equations of objects, and mathematical models of volume and area, and then presents them on two-dimensional rice paper. His artworks reflect on the importance of books in his life and the influence they have imparted to him. He views these books as pivotal to his thought process, imagination, and the extension of his consciousness.

 

The creations of Tong Xindi & Shen Ting and Ling Haipeng meticulously analyze ancient classical art forms and breathe new life into them with contemporary perspectives.
